What a Mobile Crew Can Fix and What Genuinely Needs a Shop

Being honest about the exceptions is what makes the rest of it worth trusting. Here is the actual line.

We are a mobile repair outfit and we think mobile is the right answer for most breakdowns. It is not the right answer for all of them, and a mobile crew that claims otherwise is telling you something about their judgement.

Fixed where it sits, routinely

  • Air system leaks, valves, chambers, dryers and lines
  • Brake adjustment, shoes, drums, slack adjusters and clevis work
  • Tires — road service, mount and balance, new and used
  • Charging and starting: alternators, starters, batteries, cables
  • Lighting and wiring faults, including trailer harness problems
  • Cooling system: hoses, thermostats, belts, water pumps on many engines
  • Fuel system components and filters
  • Many emissions and derate faults, including sensors and forced regen
  • Jump starts, fuel delivery, lockouts
  • RV electrical, propane, appliance, slide and jack problems

Needs a shop

  • Internal engine work and engine removal
  • Transmission removal and internal transmission work
  • Frame damage and structural repair
  • Anything needing the vehicle lifted for safe access underneath
  • Major DPF service requiring removal and cleaning
  • Alignment
  • Anything on a site that cannot be worked on safely

The site is frequently the deciding factor

A repair that is straightforward in a yard can be impossible on the shoulder of I-10. Traffic, no room, a slope, soft ground or standing water all change what can be done safely. We will tell you if the answer is to move the truck first, even if that means a tow to somewhere workable rather than a tow to a shop.

What makes the call go well

  1. Precise location — road, direction, mile marker or exit, which side.
  2. What the truck is and whether it is loaded.
  3. The symptom in plain terms rather than a diagnosis.
  4. Any dash warnings, derate, or codes if you have them.
  5. Whether it will move under its own power.
  6. Whether you are somewhere safe to wait.
